Panting with exhaustion, Fading Mist looks down over the cliff at her injured Packmates.
The Qakaarti Pack howls in victory as Fang's wolves retreat.
Night Flame flicks her ears towards her wolves. "Let's go," she growls. Casting a final glare at her mother for abandoning her and her littermates, she bounds up the cliffs, followed by Star and the mountains wolves, all helping each other. She waits at the top of a cliff, calling, "Blossom! Water! C'mon!" She notices that Rushing Water is touching noses with Blossom Fire, and her heart seizes. Will she have to leave one of the behind?
The two sisters climb the hollow, and Blossom Fire gazes sadly at Night Flame. "I'm not coming with you."
Night Flame gapes at her sister. "But you were raised a loner!" she protests. "You have your territory, your friends....and what about us?" she demands, gesturing her tail towards Rushing Water. "Do you really want to leave us?"
Blossom Fire's green eyes cloud with sorrow. "I know," she whispers. "But we were born Pack wolves."
Night Flame curls her lip into a snarl. "We were given up!"
"Our mother was trying to protect us!"
Night Flame snaps her jaws in frustration. "Then why didn't Fading Mist come back for us after Soaring Eagle died?" she hisses. "Shadow Fire's cubs forgave her, but I cannot see any good in a she-wolf giving away her cubs. I will not forgive as they did, and you shouldn't either!"
Fire blazes in Blossom's eyes. "I cannot forgive, you're right about that," she snarls. "But fighting with my Pack today made me feel like I was helping in some way. I want to be responsible, to care for wolves other than myself. And now, these wolves need me. I'll visit you, and I'll never forget you two, or my time as a loner, but my place is here."
Night Flame sadly touches noses with her sister. "Take care of yourself and your Pack," she whispers.
Blossom Fire nods, and watches her two sisters leave, not even looking back.
She pads up to Fading Mist. "I'm so sorry," she hears her mother wail softly, but she merely growls.
"I'd like to rejoin the Pack."
Fading Mist nods, and casts back her head in a triumphant howl, echoed by the Pack, and eventually, Blossom Fire joins in. The war has been won.
