Soaring Eagle strides into the clearing, closley accompanied by Sky Deamon. "Eagle, If you feel funny, or something's wrong..." Sky Deamon begins. "Yes, I know, go back to camp or yowl for help, we've gone over this many times Deamon," Soaring Eagle replies. "Just catch a beaver or something, please!" Sky Deamon chuckles, and dashes off to do just so. He is gone for only 4 minutes, but when he gets back, he finds Soaring Eagle writhing on the ground. "The cubs are coming early!" he cries. "Call Apple Leaf!" A wolf dashes off to get the healer, who gently (with the help of Sky Deamon) drags Soaring Eagle into the nursery of the Qakaarti Pack (thread continued there).

Then Apple Leaf was there dragging Soaring Eagle in to the Cub Dens, and everything was all right and under control. The panicked crowd dispersed.

Soaring Eagle begs Sky Deamon over and over to let her go to the Hunting Grounds. "Please Deamon!? The cubs will be fine for several minutes!" "No Eagle, what if you got hurt, or killed?" responds Sky Deamon. "That won't happen!" exclaims Soaring Eagle. "Well what if it does?" snaps Sky Deamon. "I'm sorry Eagle, but that's my final answer."

Frozen Heart walks towards the Hunting Grounds. The scent of rabbit suddenly fills his nose and he looks around for it. He spots the small animal munching on some grass not to far from his current position. He swiftly drops to the ground in the hunting position that his father had taught him before he died. He stalks closer to the rabbit, careful not to make any noise, and when he stalks close enough, he launches himself in the air and lands right behind where the rabbit sits. The rabbit jumps up before he is able to catch it and darts through the forest. Frozen Heart takes off with a burst of speed and quickly over takes the rabbit. With the rabbit sprawling to get to its paws, Frozen Heart bits the creature's neck and kills it. He picks up the body and walks the rest of the way to the Hunting Grounds.

Fading Mist and Lightning Strike bound into the clearing, along with several other wolves. Fading Mist thinks about her cubs. She knows they will be fine with Primula Alpicola and Soaring Eagle, but still worries. What if something goes wrong while she's hunting?! Then, Lightning Strike's soft voice breaks into her train of thought. "Aren't you going to address what we're going for today?" he gives her a nudge, a sign to tell her to carry out her duties as beta. "Today," she announces in a strong, clear voice. "We'll be hunting a herd of bison!" A few wolves gasp, and one wolf calls out, "How are we going to FIND a herd of bison?!" Fading Mist raises her chin defiantly, her yellow eyes gleaming in triumph, and says, "I saw one while walking by the river earlier! We're going to be hunting them because the pack hasn't had much to eat lately. We're going to use the split-up tactic. Meet me at the river bend in the darkest part of the forest, now go!" As the hunting party races through the pack short-cut to the river bend, Fading Mist peers down at the herd of bison from a frosty hill. The calves are in the center, with adults surrounding them. She stalks slowly toward the herd, then prowls into it. She keeps low to the ground, until she's in the calf area in the heart of the herd. No bison has yet spotted her. Then she leaps up onto the back of a calf, and sinks her teeth into its neck! The calf dies instantly, the herd charges, and she zips out of the heart of the herd, where all the full groan bulls are. She places herself in between a huge bull and the herd, and steers him away. She chases the bison, herding it into the woods, to the river bend. The hunting party closes in on the bison, and it can't move. It's surrounded! Then, Fading Mist and the hunting party leaps up, clawing, slashing, biting, and it's over; the bull is dead. The hunting party drags the bull back to camp, and Fading Mist picks up the calf she killed along the way, to bring back to her cubs as their first prey. Many wolves bear wounds from the bull's hooves and horns, when it fought back, but no wolf cares, for this is the best prey the Qakaarti Pack has had in months! The hunters have won this battle. They will come home victorious, to the hungry bellies of Silver Rose, River Stone, Lapping Wave, and Red Willow.

Rolianthus Eromata and Derthutus Arajensys hunt a bunch of small birds and hares in the forest and drag it back to the cub dens, where a hungry Primula Alpicola is waiting with her hungry pups. They note that the prey is getting smaller and less easy to catch.

Hakurou stalks into the Hunting Grounds with Lavi, his pregnate mate, by his side. He finds her a shady place to lie down until he comes back with a meal for them. He pasts a group of wolves that where devowering a deer that they had reciently killed. He thinks a moment about stealing their prey but decides not to since there were four wolves eating and there was only one of him. He continues past them and finds another wolf that was carring a rabbit to some place to eat it. Hakurou stalks over to it and jumps ontop of the wolf's back. The wolf drops the rabbit to fight back and Hakurou swiftly snaches up the rabbit and dashes into the forrest and makes his way back to Lavi without comming into the clearing. He drops the rabbit at her paws and lays down next to her. She sniffs the rabbit and looks at him. "It smells like another wolf." she snarls. Hakurou smiles and responds, "Thats because some wolf was kind enough to give up its prey for us." Lavi rolls her eyes and takes a bite of the rabbit. "Well either way, thank you for getting it." Hakurou smiled and licked his mate's cheek.

Lightning Strike limps into the hunting ground. He spots a feeble little rabbit, and catches it. Starving, he takes a large mouthful of meat. The rabbit tastes of dry bark and winter, and the it is very thin. Not even enough to feed one wolf. Lightning Strike would have gone after larger prey, but the bear attack weakened him, and it hadn't even been a month ago. He waits, eating his rabbit, and then sees a sickly looking deer. It's very thin and bony, but he catches it to bring back to his mate and cubs anyway. He trots off, and he's so skinny in the middle of winter that his dark gray pelt clings to his bony frame.

Fading Mist's cubs bound into the clearing. "Look!" squeaks Silver Rose excitedly. "Four rabbits!" The cubs gulp down their rabbits, quickly, and hungrily. In the middle of the winter, food is hard to come by. Wolves must hunt any scrap of prey they can find, or die. There's barely enough prey for the cubs, let alone the pack! The most common way that wolves perish is for lack of prey in winter. Finishing their meal, the cubs sit down on the river bank. River Stone rolls a pebble beneath his large paw. "The river is frozen," he notes. "It shouldn't be that way, just like we shouldn't have sneaked out of camp at only four months old." Lapping Wave looks at her brother scornfully, and tells him in her tiny, delicate, soft voice, "The river freezes every winter. It's right that the river should freeze, so it's right that we should be out of camp." Seeing River Stone cock his head skeptically, she adds, "I admit that I was unsure at first, but now that I see the frozen river, I'm certain that this is right." Red Willow's red ears prick, she narrows her eyes, and wags her tail playfully. "You scared?" she teases. River Stone growls, and leaps at his sister. The two cubs tumble onto the frozen river, and all four pairs of ears hear a crack in the ice. "Watch out!" cries Silver Rose in alarm. The two cubs on the ice freeze in surprise. "Falcon Talons told me that the river doesn't freeze all the way through! You could fall through and drown!" "Aww," teases Red Willow. "Falcon and Rose sitting in a tree, L-I-C-K-I-N-G!" "Seriously!" snaps Silver Rose, determined to cover up her embarrassment. "Get off the ice! NOW!" River Stone snorts, then points out, "Willow has a point. How can you believe everything Falcon says? He could be lying!" "Or just wrong," Lapping Wave adds. "She believes him because she likes him!" scoffs Red Willow. "Do not!" cries Silver Rose indignantly. "Do too!" "Do not!" "Do too!" "Do NOT!" "Do TOO!" Red Willow rears up to tackle her brother, and a crack splits the air. She comes down lightly, and whimpers, "What's happening?" "Don't move!" orders Silver Rose. "You two stay on the ice and don't move a hair. Lapping Wave will make sure you don't move. I'll go get help!" "What if they fall through?" Lapping Wave asks. "Don't follow them. You're the smartest, so direct them on how to swim out and fight the current. We can't put you in danger!" With that, Silver Rose charges out of the hunting grounds towards camp to go get help and to rescue her littermates, leaving the other petrified cubs behind. She's the alpha, the leader. If her littermates drown, it will be all her fault, for bringing them to the hunting grounds, convincing them it was okay, and then for failing to save them. If they die, her pack of family dies, and she will never forgive herself. If they die, then, in a way, so does she. As her duty as lead cub of the litter, she must save her littermates, or die. She reaches the camp, screaming, "HELP, HELP! WE NEED HELP!"

Soaring Eagle bounds over, and grabs each cub by the scruff, carrying them to land. "Why were you on the ice?!" she snaps. "Umm..." begins Silver Rose. "It doesn't matter," says Soaring Eagle. "Back to Camp. NOW."
