Star gingerly sniffs the Quakaarti border. She very stealthily steps across. Spotting a deer, she leaps, and after catching it, discovers that the Quakaarti pack has the most prey rich territory. I think I'll make these my hunting grounds! I don't care what the Quakaarti Pack thinks! She barks softly at her own cleverness and daring, then lays down a marker.

As Star steps over the boarder 3 cubs run up to her. "I am Falcon Talons!" says the largest black and white one. "Son of Soaring Eagle and Sky Deamon and rightful heir to the Qakaarti Throne!" Star actually laughs. "You can't be serious little cub," she says. "Eagle's Feet or whatever your name is. Let me through."

"You leave my brother alone!" says a light brown female with a painful-looking twisted paw. "And who are you little cub?" asks Star. "I'm Sweeping Wind!" she exclaims. "What happened to your paw?" scoffs Star. Sweeping Wind growls. "If you must know, I was born this way," she replies. "And you are?" "Star," she replies. "I'm a Loner." "Oh-ho!" exclaims a relatively small golden male. "Somebody got kicked out of her Pack! See, Shadow Forest, this is what happens when you continue to replace Apple Leaf's Juniper Berry Wine with Myrtle Essence!" A large black female scoffs at this. "Shut up Lightning Spark!" she exclaims. "You don't have any right to tell me what to do!" "You shut up Shadow Forest!" shouts Lightning Spark. "You don't have the right to to tell me to shut up!" "ALL of you shut up!" screams Falcon Talons. "What are you doing here Star?" Star doesn't reply. Sweeping Wind looks captivated. "I've always wanted to meet a real Loner!" she says. "You see, I can't do much with my twisted paw, so my parents, Soaring Eagle and Sky Deamon try to find these awful ways to intertain me, all of which are boring! I'm always trying to find ways to intertain myself, but it never works! Come back to camp with us!" "What?!" all of the other cubs ask.

Star first glances at Lightning Spark, and says, "I was not kicked out of my pack. My family were new comers to this place, and my parents were born loners, so so was I." She then turns to Sweeping Wind, and says, sounding uncertain, "Er, the loners and your pack have recently fought in a battle, so I don't think it would be a good idea for me to come to your camp." However, she secretly longs to meet other wolves and be friends with the Quakaarti pack. Sweeping Wind looks pleadingly up at her, and whimpers, "Please..." Star sighs, and says, "Alright. I don't think your parents will welcome me, but I'll come." Then she trots off after Sweeping Wind, with the other cubs calling after them.

"Don't worry Star!" exclaims Sweeping Wind. "My parents don't need to know!" "Umm..." says Falcon Talons. "Yes they do." "No they don't!" screeches Sweeping Wind. "You always get to do everything while I'm stuck in the freaking camp with a twisted paw! It's just not fair!" Falcon Talons doesn't reply. "How did you get the twisted paw?" asks Star. "She was born with it," replies Lightning Spark. " Hello?" says Sweeping Wind. "I can answer my own questions!" The cubs bicker all the way back to camp. "This is the Quartz Camp," says Sweeping Wind. Star gasps in admiration. "Wow," she says. "This is brilliant!" Star spends several minutes just staring at the semi-clear walls of the camp, completely made out of shimmering quartz. She and the cubs just stand there until some wolves run over shouting; "Who are you?"

Star draws herself up to full height. Maybe if these are male wolves she'll get out of this mess! "Who are YOU?" she sneers, feeling terrified inside. She waves her low set tail, and bristles. Her blue eyes flash in cruel beauty and anger, and the wolves blink, falling under her spell. "Leave me alone, you ignorant DOGS!" she barks sharply. The male wolves look dazed, and all say, "We have somewhere else to be. We shouldn't be bothering the totally hot she-wolf we don't know." All four cubs stare at her, wide-eyed and amazed. "Wow!" squeals Sweeping Wind. "Teach me how to do that!" Star smiles grimly, and a wolf smile looks very mysterious. "You have to have a certain talent and beauty. I believe you possess that, Wind."

"Hey!" argues Shadow Forest from behind her. "I'm black!" she argues. "Wind's just brown! How can I not be better than her? She's the plainest of the bunch! Falcon Talons looks like Soaring Eagle, so he's special, and Lightning Spark is gold! Do you know how rare that is?"

Star looks startled. "You can learn too," she reassures the cub quickly. "It's just that Sweeping Wind has a twisted paw, and has experienced hardship, so it might be easier for her.

Shadow Forest looks suprised. "What do you mean she's 'experianced hardship?' Does that mean you have too?"

Star blinks. "Yes," she whispers. "I have. But not physically. There are other kinds of hardships."

"No there aren't," mutters Shadow Forest.

Star glares at her. "Yes there are!" she snarls. "Emotional, mental... those are just as hard, if not more hard, to bear as physical hardships."

"Riiight..." says Shadow Forest. "If there were all those kinds of hardships, why wouldn't more wolves kill themselves?" "That is an excellent question," says Star. "And one that does not have an answer. You could probably ask Soaring Eagle..." "Ask me what?" asks Soaring Eagle as she steps out from behind a tree. All of the cubs yelp in surprise. "Who is this?"

Star recoils. She tries bravely to keep her chin up, and to keep her tail from slipping between her legs. "I'm um...." Soaring Eagle glares. "I've heard the "Um" trick before. Tell the truth! Who are you?" Star wishes to keep her identity secret, so she cries, "I'm..." she tries desperately to think of a name. "I'm Ice!" The first name she thinks of is her sister's. "Forgive me Ice," she pleads silently. "Ice the loner!"

"Falcon Talons, why is she here?" asks Soaring Eagle.
