Sunny Spot walks up to Soaring Eagle and dips her head respectfully. "I must leave the pack to become a loner," Sunny Spot murmurs. "I will never steal prey or any of that s***, I just don't belong here." she bows her head and waits for an answer.

"Traitor!" howls River Stone. "Good riddance, I say!" snorts Silver Rose. "Scum bag! Deer brain! Bear Heart!" screeches Red Willow. "No," whispers Lapping Wave. "She's right. She doesn't belong here. She'll learn as a loner, and then she'll come back." Fading Mist merely turns her back to Sunny Spot in shame.

Sunny Spot turns her head. "What do you mean I'll come back," she asks. " How do you know I'm not sating a loner?"

Lapping Wave looks uncomfortably at her white paws. "Er--" she stammers. "I-- I don't know. I've just got a feeling that you'll come back."

"Wait!" cries Lapping Wave racing after Sunny Spot. The white and golden she-wolf turns to look at her. "What?" Lapping Wave stops, panting. "Go to Star," she pants. "She'll help you." Then, the young she-wolf plunges back into the brush, and heads back to camp.

Sunny Spot dashes to loner hunting grounds. She doesn't know were to look. It is almost dusk, then, Sunny Spot sees a deer. She starts to stalk. She jumps out of the bush, but so does another she-wolf....

"Ouch!" yelps Star, falling back. She lands on her paws, and turns to face her opponent, bristling, and snarls, "You cost me my prey!" "No, you cost me MY prey!" the other wolf howls back. "YOUR prey? You're more lopsided than a one-legged bear!" "I would tear you to pieces if I knew how!" growls the white and golden she-wolf. "What? You don't know how to shred a wolf?" asks Star in surprise. The she-wolf cocks her head. "Are you Star?" Star turns her back and looks coldly over her shoulder at the other wolf. She wants to ask, "How do you know my name?", but instead the growls coldly, "So what if I am?"

"I really really need you,"yowls Sunny. "I was sent to be trained by you, my pack doesn't want me and I'm more deer brain than a blind squirrel," Sunny moans. She stares at Star for a moment. "I haven't trained many wolves," answers Star. "But if you're sure you want to be trained, I'll do it." She answers. "We begin tomorrow," she growls, then stalks away.

Sunny walks away. Sunny feels a pain in her stomach. She walks to the black path and picks up a squirrel. She rips off the remains and eats. She walks back to loner territory. Sunny looks for a place to sleep. She finds a narrow crack in a rock, big enough for her to slip through. She crawls through and curls up into a tight ball.

Star crouches down low, then springs at a deer and kills it promptly. She settles down and eats her prey, then pads back to her den. Curling up, she wonders, How am I to teach this deer-brained wolf? She sighs, and a wolfish grin spreads across her face. I'll start by testing her reflexes.

Sunny wakes up to the smell of rain. The forest is covered in dew. She finds a deer carcass and drags it back to her den. She smells something, an attacker jumps into her den. Sunny charges back and swats the wolf with her big paws. As it clears up she realizes it was Star. She stands up and growls "What was that for!" "Just to test your reaction on a surprise attack," Star answers calmly. "You could have warned me," Sunny bellows. "Then it wouldn't be a surprise!" Star grins.

"Down to business," Star snaps briskly. "We're going to work on stalking a porcupine!"

"Why not a squirrel or something else?" moans Sunny. "You can't tell if your messing up on a squirrel," growls Star. "What happens if you mess up on a porcupine?" whimpers Sunny. "You'll see," growls Star. Sunny drops into position and starts to stalk. I'm going to impress Star! thinks Sunny. I'm going to get really close. Sunny creeps up on the porcupine. She stumbles on a root and falls into the porcupine. "He bit me with his butt !" howls Sunny. The porcupine scrambles away. "You deer brain!" snaps Star.
